Rome 12/13

Rome has been keeping it real for just over a decade now with innovative technologies, strong graphics and a loyal following to match. We caught up with Mike from Rome at ISPO to check out two of the exciting new snowboard models (plus one staple) from the 2012/2013 line.

The Crossrocket

The Crossrocket is one of Rome’s key product stories for 2013. The Crossrocket features their new ‘No Hang Ups’ Diamond profiling which combines a mellow concave rocker in the nose and tail, (sort of like the hull of a boat), with a positive camber diamond shaped section between the feet. This combination retains the ollie power and edge hold of camber while introducing the catch-free, buttery ride of rocker. Carbon ‘HotRods’ provide extra pop and the ‘QuickRip’ sidecut allows the board to feel short and playful at lower speeds and longer and more stable at higher speeds. To top it all off, the sintered base and triax glass make this a high end, high performing, do anything, go anywhere snowboard.

The Shank

The Shank is Rome’s attempt at a true skate-inspired board and is designed to be ridden much shorter than your standard sized deck. Like the Crossrocket, the Shank also features the new ‘No Hang Ups’ tech although rather than having a cambered diamond area; the Shank is flat between the feet for an even looser ride. The Skatecore profiling means that the board’s core is also thinner between the feet for turning and ollie performance that really mimics that of a skateboard. Add to this a fast sintered base, ‘HotRods’, ‘Quickrip Sidecut’ and a ridiculously fresh graphic and you have a board that is bound to be a hit with jib punks everywhere.
